In Canada, there is a parliamentary democracy, and a constitutional monarchy. This means that we elect representatives into our parliament and legislatures. In Canada, we have electoral districts spread out across the country. We have individual political parties, and each one can send a candidate to run for the seat in any electoral districts. The party of the candidate that becomes leader of an electoral district wins a seat in parliament for that candidate. There are a total of 338 seats in parliament. The party that win the most seats in parliament forms government. That party's leader becomes the prime minister of Canada.

Issues at the federal level in this election
Some of the main federal issues in this election are:
- The economy
- Who will raise Canada up to its full potential, and not only establish better economy sources for Canada, but also maintain them?
- The environment
- Canada's recent carbon and green house gas emissions have been extremely high. Who can make efforts to lower them, while keeping Canadians happy, along with protecting and moderating how we use and protect our natural resources and the environment.
- Health care
- Only parts of it are controlled by the federal government, but with prescription drug costs so high, who will support Canadians financially in paying for them?
