Why take part in the Student vote?Voter turnout has gone down a lot over the past few decades. Studies over the years have shown that people who tend not to vote at first, develop that habit over time and are less likely to vote later in life. The Student Vote allows people to explore elections at a young age. Participating in informed and engaged citizenship will hopefully inspire and encourage youth to vote once 18 years old.

Student Vote Results 2015The Student vote results were announced after the election was finished. Something truly interesting was that the results of the student vote were almost a mirror of the results of the real, federal election. I thought that this was quite fascinating. Some people may argue that this was because parents naturally influence their children, and this could be a reflection of who the youths' parents were voting for. If you look deeper, some may observe that the green party received over 10% of the vote of students. From this one might gather that this generation of youth have a bigger concern for the environment, this could mean future elections will be focused more on environmental concerns, rather than so much around our economy.
