The Green Party of CanadaThe Green Party of Canada (Green Party) was founded at Carleton University in Ottawa. Their first leader was Dr. Trevor Hancock. The Green Party has yet to become official opposition and have not yet formed a government. Their current leader is Elizabeth May. Elizabeth May has been their leader since 2004. She is an activist, lawyer, and writer, and is sixty one years old.

ECONOMY AND INFRASTRUCTURE

- Create more sustainable jobs having to do with renewable energy sources.
- Try to lower the rates of youth unemployment.
- Under the Canada labour code, raise the minimum wage rate to $15/hour.
- End the Temporary Foreign Worker's Program.
- Fund the "Green Cities" initiative and insure that it reduces urban sprawl, while improving public transit and saving energy and water.
- Fund to provide assistance in cleaning up toxic and brownfield sites.
ENVIRONMENT

- Oppose any current proposals for new pipelines.
- Promote renewable energy.
- Investing in energy-savings in both public transit and water systems.
- Cancel the annual subsidy or 1.3 billion dollars to fossil fuel companies.
- Increasing the efficiency of existing building and housing stock.
- Committing to reducing Canada's greenhouse gas emissions to 40% less than the 2005 levels by 2025.
COST OF LIVING

- Creating a national housing strategy that would allow them to insure access to safe, secure, and affordable housing for every Canadian.
- Work to eliminate student debt nationally.
